How long can my internship last?

To ensure a meaningful experience, internships run for a minimum of 6 weeks, up to 2 years, depending on the program. We’ll work with you to arrange a duration that fits your preferences and visa conditions.

Do I need to be fluent in English?

You don’t need to be a native speaker, but you should have a good working level of English - IELTS 5.5 or PTE Academic 42 (overall). If your level is lower, we recommend improving your English in Australia before starting your internship so you can get the most out of your experience.

Will I be paid during my internship?

It depends on your program:

• STEM and Professional Internship Programs: These are unpaid training experiences (standard practice in Australia).

• Stipend Internship Program: In some cases, a monthly stipend may be possible depending on your eligibility for this program.

• Aged Care, Childcare, and Hospitality Internship Programs: These are paid internships.

How much will the Internship cost?

Is the application fee refundable?

No, the application fee is a non-refundable administration fee. It covers the initial work involved in processing your application and starting your internship search.

Can I get university credit for my internship?

Yes - interns can complete their internship as part of their academic studies and earn credit from their university. If you’d like to pursue this option, please inform us and provide the required documentation from your institution. Our team will liaise directly with your university to ensure all academic paperwork is completed and meets the necessary standards.

Important note for applicants applying under the 407 Training Visa:
Due to recent extensions in visa processing times, we ask that your higher-education institution provide a letter acknowledging that the potential delay in visa approval has been taken into account. The letter should acknowledge that a later start to your internship will not affect your academic progress or requirements. This helps ensure that all parties understand the situation and that Australian Internships is not held responsible for any delay in visa approval.

Are there any special requirements needed to gain an Internship?

Yes, each internship program has slightly different eligibility criteria.

How long will it take to arrange my Internship?

Our lead time is usually between 6 to 12 weeks to secure an internship that matches your profile and goals.

For candidates applying under the 407 Training Visa, you should also allow extra time for visa processing. Processing times can change, so we recommend checking the latest information on the Department of Home Affairs website regularly.

Do I need insurance?

All interns are required to have Personal Liability Insurance, which provides coverage while you are at work. Many standard Overseas Visitor Health Cover (OVHC) policies do not include this type of coverage, so it’s important to have the right protection.

Can I travel to Australia before or after my Internship?

Do I need a visa to do an internship in Australia?

Yes - to complete an internship in Australia, you must hold a valid visa that allows work. Internships can be undertaken on several visa types, including:

Working Holiday Visa (subclass 417)

Work and Holiday Visa (subclass 462) - internship duration limited to 6 months

Training Visa (subclass 407) - Australian Internships can be your sponsor for this visa provided you meet all the eligibility requirements.

Student Visa (subclass 500) - during study breaks or after graduation

Temporary Graduate Visa (subclass 485)

Any visa with full work permissions
