What do you enjoy most about Australia?

I live in Melbourne, and in the 4 months I've been here, I have enjoyed exploring the extensive selection of dining options. There's literally a place to eat for all budgets on every corner and laneway in the Central Business District (CBD). I also enjoy going on hikes while exploring its amazing coastal trails and going on road trips to Melbourne's hiking gems and beaches.

Gabriela Martinez - Business Adminstration (Brazil)

My name is Gabriela, I’m Brazilian and I’ve felt in love with this country called Australia since day one. Australia provided me so many life-changing experiences and every day is a new beginning to do something different.

Australian Internships opened its doors for me and welcomed me as a family. My role as a Business Admin Intern is to provide assistance and support for all team members. The best part is that I get to learn with all of them. The team has so many different backgrounds which just enhances my professional experience.

What I would say for every person that has the opportunity to be in this amazing country and kick-start their career here: the world was made to explore, so enjoy every moment, every place. Believe in yourself. Learn as much as you can with every experience. “Maybe is not about the destination, it’s about the journey”.

•          Why did you choose to complete an internship?

It’s all about the experience, especially getting familiar with Australian’s style workplace as an important step for graduates. In my humble opinion, studying is just a part of my career. We study to support our work in the future. Also, I believe working is also studying in some ways as we learn every time we experience new things. Completing an internship is definitely much harder than 2 subjects alternative, but your efforts are going to pay off.

•          What have you learned the most during your internship?

My first week was overwhelmed with new things. I initially felt lost as I rarely learned anything about those practical matters from the school’s subjects or my past working experiences. I began to learn and discover while working in my internship, and it boosted my confidence gradually.

Within my internship, there were a few distinct knowledge encounters in the field of business management and marketing analytics that stand out as the most influential aspects of my advancement. Through the application of analytical skills, communication skills, computer skills, project management, time management, research, reporting, teamwork, problem-solving, presentation, and consistent practice, both of my business management knowledge and skills improved to a great extent. Additionally, my development with managing the daily processes within the office and working from home clearly reflected the real-life experience advantages of my professional career.

•          What benefits do you feel Australian Internships contributed to your internship and time in Australia?

Since most of the time I’ve been here Melbourne was in lockdowns, I really appreciated this placement that pushed me to a real work environment instantly without being graduated first. It is absolutely helpful to go outside and explore rather than sitting at home for some online learning courses. And more importantly, al thanks to Australian Internships, I got the chance to work in the field I want, which sometimes is hard to match, and many people out there couldn’t make it.

I still remember that it was the first time I got an interview with an Australian company, and I was helped by my Internship Program Supervisor - Imante to conduct a mock interview, a review on my proposal to the host company, as well as many emails and calls to keep me updated. With the great mentorship from Australian Internships, I made a beautiful ending as getting employed by my host organization. This marks a big milestone not only for my time in Australia but also for my whole life.

•          What advice would you give future interns?

Prove what you can bring to the table with all the skills and a great spirit (hardworking, team player, learning on-the-go, can-do attitude).

You don’t need to be perfect. Just be yourself, be prepared and be confident.

•          What do you enjoy most about Australia?

Australia is known for its diverse and welcoming people, plus the Australian education sector comprises world-leading education institutions, premium training facilities, and outstanding lecturers and student support services. Besides, the natural beauty of Australia absolutely blows me away.

Actually, I thought I went for the U.S but I just got the acceptance for my VISA by Australia pretty fast (around 4 days if I recall correctly). I believe that's my fate being here.

However, it is still emotional whenever I think about how I ended up here, living far away from my family in Vietnam and unable to fly back as the pandemic has been restricted international travels. Thankfully, I settle in St Albans and previously Sunshine suburbs, whereas many Vietnamese people reside and lots of Vietnamese foods to comfort my homesickness.

1 - Why did you choose to complete an Internship?

I decided that I wanted to do an internship because I wanted to gain some knowledge about what specific field of work I want to go into after I graduate. Internships are a great way to start experiencing the working world without completely committing to a job before you know for certain that that is what you want to be doing for work. Being an intern allows you to see, and also engage in work happening first hand rather than just learning about it through textbooks.

2 - What have you learned the most during your internship?

I think that overall my communication skills have improved dramatically. I was the kind of person that would jump to conclusions and want to answer some one’s question right away without completely hearing the whole question. So not I take the time to listen and ask confirming questions and then I think about how I can answer the question to the fullest.

3 - What benefits do you feel AI contributed to your internship and time in Australia?

AI from the beginning made my internship experience better because I trusted that the internships that they would set me up with were safe and reputable. Every person that I have conversed with in AI has been very personable and helpful. If it weren’t for AI, I would not have been able to meet the wonderful people that I have in the program.

4 - What advice would you give future interns?

The best advice that I can give to future interns would have to be, take initiative. If there is something wrong or not going the way that you want, talk to someone about it. Also, make sure that you try and meet as many people as you can and immures yourself in the culture because you never know who you will meet and you never know the next the that you will be able to come back to where you are.

5 - What do you enjoy most about Australia?

What I have enjoyed most about Australia would have to be how diverse it is here. I have met so many people from all over the world and from many different backgrounds. It has been absolutely wonderful meeting new people and learning all about them and what makes them the person that they are. It has been a very pleasant surprise getting to know all the amazing people and cultures that Australia has to offer.

Why did you choose to complete an internship?

For me doing an internship is the first step to be prepared for the labour market, there is no better way of learning than actually doing. Having the opportunity of being part of an international company is been very positive for my personal and professional growth, the team is very warm they had become like a second family to me, every day I learn something new from them. The internship had covered all my expectations from experience the real business environment and the knowledge I gain every, and I am so excited about what is next for my career.

What have you learned the most during your internship?

I have learned so many things it is difficult to choose just one, Panalitix exists to help professional services businesses, that means they give advisory and coaching to other firms, in that way they are always keeping an internal intellectual growth I had read 3 books since I started my internship one was “fish” which talks about how to have a positive attitude at your work and how you can help others to have a better day, the other book is called “how to win friends and influence people” and is  about how to develop lasting and better relationships, the last one I am reading is called “clockwork” this one is about how to design a business that runs by itself, so as I said the learning hasn't been focus only on one thing.

What benefits do you feel AI contributed to your internship and time in Australia?

I loved Australian internship emails, they always sent emails with interesting information that is very useful for interns such as “common mistakes to avoid when creating your resume”  “top 5 of the places you should visit in Australia” “Avoiding flu and sickness during the winter.”

For me is amazing because that shows me they don't limit the interaction with interns until they found us a company, it shows effort in keeping the communication open.

What advice would you give to future interns?

My advice would be: have a positive attitude always, because it can be difficult at the begging to adapt yourself to a new environment, you might get homesick, but everything is an experience so try to enjoy as much as you can, don't be afraid of doing questions because your goal here is TO LEARN!

What do you enjoy most about Australia?

What I like about Australia is that there is a lot to explore, many beautiful beaches, Byron Bay has been my favourite island until now, with amazing views, the gorgeous lighthouse, a great energy from the people around, and they also have one of the best beers I have ever tasted.

I have spent 5 months in Brisbane. I have studied English at UQ, made many friends from different countries and experienced a lot of things which I cannot do in Japan, but the thing I consider the most useful and practical is Internship in the hotel. Natasha Robbie - Real Estate (Australia)

Nathasha.jpg

1. Why did you choose to complete an internship?

For the past 10 months I have been studying a Diploma in Business Administration, this was the first step I took towards my goal of getting a career in Real Estate. Since then, I have been actively researching any Real Estate positions going in the area, I have researched the industry, the requirements I need and made contact with all local Agencies, to get my name out there. Recently I completed my Agents Representative Certificate, which put me one step closer to my goal. When I was offered the opportunity to undertake an Internship, I thought it would be a great chance for me to get my foot in the door to Real Estate. Living in a small town does make it a little difficult to gain opportunities like this, so I grabbed it! I am now in the middle of my third week of my 4 week Internship Program with East Gippsland & Lakes Real Estate and I am loving it!

2. What have you learned the most during your internship?

I have learnt so much during my Internship that it is hard to pin point one specific thing. This opportunity gave me a chance to find out whether I will enjoy the Industry or not. As I have never worked in a position like this it was hard to tell if I would like it or not, or if I was cut out for it. I have no doubt now that this is definitely a goal I will continue to work towards. Although this is a small business with only two employees, I have learnt a great deal about the industry. I now have a great understanding of what it is like to work in Real Estate, I know the day-to-day tasks that are required and have performed all tasks that have been given to me.

 3. What benefits do you feel AI contributed to your internship and time in Australia?

The Australian Internships Program gave me the benefit of being able to make my dream a reality. By arranging this 4 week program it really gave me a great boost towards my goal. The AI keeps regular contact with myself and my host to ensure that everything is going well. By also filling out my Weekly Learning Plan this allows me to put into words all the tasks I undertake and to really track my own progress and all the knowledge and skills I have learnt. It also allows me to get feedback from my host on my progress and performance.

4. What advice would you give future interns"?

Take the opportunity and work the hardest you possibly can. It is a great feeling knowing that you are learning new things on the road to successfully reaching your goal. Be grateful for anyone willing to take the time to train you new things and appreciate every type of feedback you get, good or bad because you can learn from your mistakes and always work on making yourself better.

 5. What do you enjoy most about Australia?

I love Australia, I have lived here my whole life and I am very grateful to live in such an amazing country.

Melanie Neubauer - Business Administration (Austria)

PIP - Business - Melanie NEUBAUER (C34034) - Australia (2016) - 1.jpg

My name is Melanie and I am from Austria. My target was to make this summer vacation something special and I am proud to tell you: it was the greatest summer I have ever had. I was offered an internship with Magnolia Silver Jewellery in their head office in Sydney. Magnolia has 8 stores around Australia. Although the office is really small, this did not mean that there was not enough work. One of my tasks entailed processing online orders including sending the jewellery to customers. During my internship, Magnolia started to work with a new designer, so I learnt how to process and catalogue new stock arrivals. I also was allowed to improve my skills with communicating by phone with the stores and ensuring prompt pickup and delivery using StarTrack, further to these tasks I was expected to arrange a variety of quotes for necessary services which ensured all stores operated successfully. Most of my time I was working with Caroline, but I also had the opportunity to improve my accounting skills by assisting the financial operation in the general accounts during these tasks I worked closely with Desy. I really enjoyed the time at Magnolia and found on busy days we still had time to interact and have a joke which made my working day much fun. Kerry, our CEO, is really kind too, when she comes to the office she always will bring a coffee for all of us and takes her time for a quick talk. In the end, I want to thank Caroline for her patience and the great time together, I always felt welcome and that made my internship even more perfect.
