Facing Challenges

Edison failed 10, 000 times before he made the electric light. Do not be discouraged if you fail a few times.” Napoleon Hill.

An internship is a journey that teaches you a lot but it appears that it can be a path full of challenge. Such challenges help you to grow both professionally and personally. These moments are what make life fascinating: without experiencing the lows, we can’t appreciate the highs.

Here are some tips for your journey:

Take a longer view

Discouragement is generally occurring as a result of a failure or when we just don’t reach our expectation. In those times, take a break and look back to all what you’ve done and how far you come from. Just by being here, you achieved a lot. Most things that are worthwhile necessitate effort and time, so be patient!

Do not compare yourself to others

Everyone has their own story, creating their own strengths and sometimes weaknesses. By comparing yourself to someone else you see their victories and successes, but forget that they also have weaknesses and failure. Comparing isn’t empowering. Let yourself be inspired by others, but focus on your own path.

Change your mind

When you feel a little bit down, wind and fresh air can have a great effect on your feelings. If you feel a little discouraged, take a breath and go for a 5 min walk outside, far from what is putting you down. If the situation permits, some exercise will help you. Hike, bike, walk, run, swim, do whatever will clear your mind!

Find someone who can help you

Being discouraged often come from a problematic situation. Solving this problem will help you to get back on a good track. Find someone able to solve the problem with you, don’t be ashamed to ask for help!

Find someone who you can help

This trick is a wonderful way to alleviate your discouragement. Helping people will make you feel useful and direct your attention to another. That will make you feel better, and will help you realize that everyone faces challenges!
