1. Why did you choose to complete an Internship?

I chose to complete an internship after my graduation in translation studies in Italy. I’d already done a university internship in the United Kingdom during my last year of studies so I was sure that doing this work experience was the best way to enhance my career in this field; in particular, I chose to come to Australia to discover a way of living and work different from Europe.

2. What have you learned the most during your internship?

During my internship I appreciated working closely to my expert supervisor, from whom I learnt a lot about the job. I improved my skills, I learned new ones and I received constructive criticism for my own good and growth which improved the quality of my work. I also enjoyed dealing with people from different nationalities, cultures and languages, which enriched me and let me discover interesting and new information. At the end of the internship the host company offered me to join them as an employee on a part-time basis and this has been a great achievement! I’m thrilled to continue working in this company!

3. What benefits do you feel AI contributed to your internship and time in Australia?

Australian Internships and my supervisor Imante gave me a valuable help; she always supported me throughout the entire period, especially during the Covid-19 lockdown. She’s been available to answer any question I might have had, not only those strictly related to the job.

4. What advice would you give future interns?

Don’t be afraid of fail or feeling alone during the internship. You won’t. This experience let you develop the precious skills you need for your career and also to grow as a person.

5. What do you enjoy most about Australia?

People in Melbourne are open-minded and always happy to help others. This city is a melting pot of cultures and nationalities, so I never felt a stranger but as part of it. I lived the Covid-19 quarantine here, far away from my loved ones, yet I never felt abandoned thanks to my colleagues and other people I met here, they have always been keen to talk and create good moments despite we all had to stay at home. In Australia life and mindset are completely different from the part of Italy where I grew up, I definitely had a good time here; I hope to have the chance to explore other areas of this country soon!
