·  Why did you choose to complete an Internship?

I have chosen an internship over the project as I wanted to expose to real IT world experience. Moreover, I have 4+ years of experience in the Information Technology industry, so I always wanted to re-enter the real work environment of Australia. I was aware that as an intern I will get hands-on experience on how things are working and get to know how big projects are built. It also gives me an idea of what role I need to choose as an IT professional.

Besides, the internship allows me to attend meetings and company events, and that gives me industry exposure. I meet many professionals from different fields and I can build new connections and that can lead me to employment. Furthermore, an internship gives me the biggest highlight on my resume and that can attract recruiters.

·  What have you learned the most during your internship?

One of the most important things I have gained from an internship is newfound knowledge of fulfilling tasks that are relevant to my desired career path and sharpening the skills that I already possess. I believe that the internship is an opportunity to test all the skills that I have developed during my past work experience and university study. I have learned how to apply those skills in real-world projects.

Working with industry professionals has given me one of the most valuable skills is the ability to speak with people in a professional setting. During the internship I have learned the appropriate way to behave as a professional, This will help me when I will start interviewing for jobs because I will be more confident and will sound more mature and experienced in a business setting.

·  What benefits do you feel AI contributed to your internship?

After connecting with Australian Internships I have found out that it is an amazing organization that helps students to find out their desired internships. Supervisors of AI are very responsive and always happy to help. For an instance, I have asked Imante (AI Supervisor) for the favor that I need an internship in the Software testing field as I have related experience in the past, and what I got in return was fantastic. AI has provided me with an internship where my role is Software Test Engineer and that makes me happy.

Moreover, whenever I need help during my internship I ask an AI representative about that, and answers from them are very informative. They are always there for students and send you emails on a timely basis to finish the required documentation. Sometimes they go out of the way to help students and that is quite impressive.

·  What advice would you give future interns regarding virtual internships?

I will advise future interns that an internship always helps to build the desired career, it does not matter that it is at the company location or virtual. During virtual internships, you learn all the things you require to achieve your career goal.

Communication is different when you’re working remotely. Most will happen through chats, email, and comments in project management systems, so you can’t rely on in-person connections to clarify something. So always have an agenda ready with a list of items you would like to discuss during the meeting. Sending your agenda ahead of time is also a good way to help your supervisor come prepared with the answers you need ahead of the call. Prioritize topics that are time-sensitive or urgent to ensure you address those first.

I believe, during virtual internships, students have to be proactive to get the best out.

·  What do you enjoy most about Australia?

Australia is a beautiful place to live which has a large variety of beautiful natural ecosystems. What I enjoy the most are golden sandy beaches with clean water, tropical rainforests, arid deserts, and snowy mountains. Australia is a truly multicultural society. 43% of Australians were either born overseas or have a parent who was born overseas.

Australia has the lowest pollution as compared to other places and the atmosphere over here is enjoyable. There are lots of job opportunities around Australia as the unemployment rate is very low around 5%. Australia is such a vast country that you can spend all your holidays exploring it. Domestic travel has it all from rainforests, beaches, to ski resorts and stunning ancient landscapes.

Australia has an impressive number of study options for international students with more than 1,200 institutions and 22,000 courses to choose from. Australia has the third-highest number of international students in the world behind the UK and US.
