Harsh Devangkumar (India)"I chosen to undertake an internship to get work experience in Australia. I learned project management skills, machine operations, and adaptivity during my internship. Yash Kacha - Civil Engineering (India)Yash has just finished his internship program in Civil Engineering in Brisbane. He received an employment offer from the same company afterwards. Why did you choose to complete an internship? I believe that internship is a great way to kickstart my career pathway in construction industry.
I have experienced most of site engineer duties, Inspection, Inductions, management, material orders, estimation, etc.
Choosing AI was the life-changing decision for me. They supported, keep me updated and reviewed how I was doing with weekly duties over the 3-month internship. AI tried their best to place me an internship and I really appreciate it.
Work hard then you will never fail! I have given 101% without hesitation since I believe that the experience gained during this time would be invaluable for my future prospects. I hardly got 5 hours sleeping during my internship period as I was also doing another job to cover all my expenses. Although it was such a difficult period, I embraced the challenges and I am deeply grateful for the internship opportunity here, which then turned out to be an employment offer.
Australia is beautiful country. Enjoy as much as you can because it's a never ending process. |

Jaykumar patel - Electrical Engineering (India)After compilation of my Master Degree my major aim was to start my career in my field as soon as possible. But, knowing that having no experience I was not able to make it. To gain experience and improve my skill I decided to start my career as an intern engineer. After getting an opportunity in the right direction I chose to complete an internship with one of the Australian Internships’ hosts. From international Engineering student to Engineer in Australia, these journeys gave me lots of experience. From this internship program, I learned a lot of things as an electrical engineer but one of the main things I learned is that to achieve my career goal I have to perform and give my best to get to know whether I am doing right or wrong. Sometimes I passed and sometimes I failed but when I failed I learned from it I tried again to solve my problem. AI helped me to find my career path direction and gave me an opportunity to build up my career as an Electrical engineer. AI supports me throughout my Internship Program and always be in touch for any kind of help. The only thing I would advise future interns is to always focus on their goals and never be distracted by bad factors. Be active and always look around for opportunities. Australian weather and nature are the most beautiful things I've ever seen and felt. Apart from this, I like the people of Australia and their support and smile which is always on their faces.

Mukit-Ur-Reza - Civil & agricultural Engineering (Bangladeshi)Why did you choose to complete an Internship? I chose to complete an internship as an opportunity to enter the Australian job market. I have been looking for a job for a long time, however, most companies require the applicant to have a minimum of two years of working experience. An internship is very important to get a job in Australia and without the internship from the local job market, it is extremely difficult to start a career. The reality is that is really hard to get experience when I do not have experience. When I realized that I needed to gather work experience in Australia to start working in the engineering sector, I undertook the internship opportunity offered by Australian Internships to gain real-world experience, network with potential future co-workers and managers. The company provided me with real, relevant experience to build my resume and ultimately help lay the groundwork I needed to build the future of my own career. The internship allowed me to apply what I studied in university to a real workplace. What have you learned the most during your internship? The internship allows me to know myself to take time to understand my role, tasks and the industry. I have learned to communicate in new ways to build professional working relationships with people of all ages in the industry. I have learned new skills from these people and new things about the industry and life that I did not know before. What benefits do you feel Australian Internships contributed to your internship? Finding a job in Australia is very challenging, especially if you don’t have experience. Unfortunately, you need to obtain a job before you can gain experience. I am thankful to Australian Internships because they have found the right host organisation for me while I was struggling to find a company for several years to obtain valuable work experience. My first-ever experience working as an intern has finally come to an end. The past 4 months have been life-altering, and my experience has taught me lessons that I would never be able to get from books or exams. Finally, I would like to thank Joy Li, Debora Hay, and Australian Internships for making my internship program successful.
What advice would you give future interns? Those who, like me 4 months ago, might be looking for very important advice that could help make their transition from student to intern a smoother process. The responsibility given to an intern will be a completely different kind of responsibility from anything you’ve experienced before. It’s nothing compared to what you’ll experience as an intern; you’ll find that every little thing you do can affect not only your entire team but also the future of your company. Also, I believe getting the practice of handling such important responsibilities by yourself is a valuable experience before you go out into the real world and have to handle much bigger ones. Do not waste any time from your life start an internship as quick as you can.

Xingchen Pan - Civil Engineering (China)Why did you choose to complete an Internship? I have been looking for a job for almost a year already, however, most of the job vacancies require the applicant to have at least one year of work experience, and visa status is also a part of the issue as we know most companies are only hiring Australian citizens. Therefore, I decided to start with an internship program and gain some work experience in related fields, try to build up my networking, and find any possible opportunity to get a job offer!
What have you learned the most during your internship? I learned that it’s important to communicate with my supervisor via phone or email if I have questions or if I don’t know how to work on a task. Asking for help and clarification is better than pretending you’ve understood what you need to do, no matter what. As an intern, good communication will help with productivity, efficiency, and growth.
What benefits do you feel AI contributed to your internship and time in Australia? Australian Internships helped me to find a company that suits me and start my career. Without an Australia Internship and Imante Markeviciute, it would be difficult for me to have the opportunity to intern in this company I dream of. Or maybe I am still have not found any engineering jobs. I truly appreciate all the help provided by the Australian internship and Imante Markeviciute!
What advice would you give future interns? Communication is the key to success in a professional environment. As an intern, I find it essential to be passionate and open to learning new skills, requiring more work, and learning and asking questions. This attitude will tell people that you like to be part of the team and are willing to help.
What do you enjoy most about Australia? Comfortable weather and lovely people. It is always good to be with these lovely people during my internship, no matter if they are engineers, clients, or subcontractors. Everyone is very gentle and kind in this job, I certainly wish I could have a chance to work with them again in the future. |
Raphael Fassy - Chemical Engineering (Brazil)Why did you choose to complete an Internship? I chose to complete an internship as an opportunity to enter the Australian job market, which is quite unique and has several differences compared to the Brazilian one. When we start our lives here as students or recent graduates, we are not familiar with Australia’s corporate culture. There is a lot to learn when it comes to the right attitude, their way to communicate, and how we are expected to achieve their goals at work. I already expected that there would be hurdles preventing me from unleashing my potential and I saw completing an internship as a bridge where I could change, adapt, and upgrade myself to this new environment.
What have you learned the most during your internship? Independence is the keyword. I was provided the sources of information that I needed to do the job, but I was expected to take my projects as if I was a full-time employee rather than just an intern. The more independence that I showed the harder were the tasks I was assigned to. A close number 2 is interdisciplinary. I am a chemical engineer, but my projects were slightly more complex than that, including chemistry, microbiology, hazardous materials, and more. That was a good challenge and it made me grow as a professional.
What benefits do you feel Australian Internships contributed to your internship? Australian Internship’s team is always helpful and will promptly answer your questions. They’ve provided very needed support in my every step during the process. From the initial assessments and talks to get to know my professional profile well, finding the right interviews according to my profile, introducing me to the differences of Australia’s recruitment process, and helping me targeting certain industries and potential geographical regions to seek the best internship.
What advice would you give future interns regarding internships? Firstly, take the initiative to look for an internship as early as possible. It is an extremely valuable experience, and it opens several doors in this country. Then, show your interviewer how independent you were in your past experiences because I feel that it is one of the most important values when working in Australia. Once you start your internship, focus on excellence, and again, on independence. It will make your workmates trust you and delegate more important tasks. Finally, have fun in your internship! This is the “lucky country”, and its corporate environment can be quite relaxed and informal compared to how it is overseas.
What do you enjoy most about Australia? The list is long, and livability is right at the top. How stunning the cities are, the roads and public transport are excellent. There are plenty of arts, culture, international cuisine, and music. There are urban parks in every suburb and the most beautiful natural reserves across the country. Australians are friendly, easy-going, loyal, and mostly drama-free. There is no place in the world closer to having a work-life balance as good as Australia’s. From having a Carlton Draught while watching the footy during lunch with your manager to the quick way of solving problems and also how efficiently you start and finish your projects at work. Everything in Australia is just perfect. |
Darshan Patel - Electrical Engineering (India)Why did you choose to complete an Internship? After I finished my Masters in Engineering I started looking out for jobs when I realized that I need to gather work experience in Australia to start working in my field. I undertook the internship opportunity offered by Australian Internships with a mindset that I will acquire work experience and referral from the workplace and bingo! They offered me a position in their company.
What have you learned the most during your internship? Interns are not expected to work so much in the workplace as they are there to learn about the company and their related field works. However, I learned that if you go one step further than that by assisting your supervisor they appreciate it. I have also learned that practicing good workplace etiquette is important. Although the task one does is not judged through etiquette but it puts an impact on work colleagues. I followed these simple steps every day and today, I sit in the office as an employee.
What benefits do you feel AI contributed to your internship and time in Australia? AI helped me prepare for my internship in various ways. They helped me sort out what companies I can look forward to for interviews and also helped me make a video and resume for internship applications. AI sent me tips and tricks to learn beforehand starting an internship in a workplace that is very different from your home country's workplace. Imante, my internship supervisor, always made sure to keep me on track with any latest updates on internship opportunities.
What advice would you give future interns? If you are available to help out your work colleagues, ask if there is anything you can do for them. There may be times when they are learning from you which will increase your value in the company. If you do not understand some things, do not hesitate to ask. Doing so shows that you are eager to learn more and your supervisor will appreciate it. The Australian work culture is a little different, if you really want to seek work in your field you need to give something back to the community.
What do you enjoy most about Australia? I have always loved traveling and Australia has so much to offer in that aspect too. Even when there is state border closure due to COVID, I can still travel to so many places in Queensland with easy access to transport be it driving a car or taking a train to Sunshine Coast from Gold Coast.

Jamyang Melam - Electrical Power Engineering (Bhutan)Why did you choose to complete an Internship? An internship is important to get a job in Australia and without the internship, it is extremely difficult to get a job. So, I would say that “INTERNSHIP is the starting point of your career”.
My objectives of the internship were to understand the working culture in Australia, learn the Power Systems in Australia, and learn various standards followed in Australia. And I was so happy that I learned more than I intended to learn. I learnt the working cultures in Australia, power systems and their challenges in Australia, standards followed in Australia, engineering ethics and innovations in Australia, and Engineering Management in Power Systems, etc. What benefits do you feel Australian Internships contributed to your internship? I am thankful for Australian Internships because they have found the right company for me. I have always hoped to work in such an engineering company (which deals with engineering designs, testing, and commissioning of power systems) and they found me the right one. So, when you are in the right company, you can enjoy the learning and can work harder. So, I enjoyed working in my host company. And in the end, they appreciated my hard work and offered me an employment contract. So, I learned what I intended and also got the employment offer and this is all thanks to Australian Internships.
I would like to advise all the future interns to choose Australian Internships because they will find you the right company for you. Also, I would like to advise future interns to work hard and try to earn appreciation from your host company so that they may employ you too. What do you enjoy most about Australia? During my internship program, I worked in different sites and places. So, I enjoyed traveling to different places in and around Western Australia. Also, I enjoyed working in Australia as it has a very good working culture with people from all around the globe. Lastly, I would like the sincerely thank Joy, Debora, and Australian Internships for making my internship program successful. |
Nagendra Kafley - Engineering Management (Bhutan)Why did you choose to complete an Internship? Well, it was part of the course, didn’t have a choice there. However, there is a famous saying, “Tell me and I forget, teach me and I may remember, involve me and I learn.” As a student, I had only experienced one-sided learning where a lecturer would lecture, just the usual stuff. There was minimum practicality and involvement with the outside world. And being an international student here in Australia further increases that curiosity to see what is happening in an Australian workplace environment. Therefore, my curiosity coupled with the course’s requirement got me an internship. What have you learned the most during your internship? Frankly, it was an intense internship, there was work every day and everyone would be there in the office before the office starts and finishes. I was initially provided with simple tasks and slowly progressed towards more complicated ones. To differentiate academic learning from workplace learning is that you “do things to learn” and not “learn things to do”. To summarise, the three main things that I learned during my internship: 1. The ability to get things done! - You're going to be asked to do things you haven't done before and learn to do things quickly. 2. The ability to get multiple things done! - You need to learn to set objectives and your milestone and deal with uncertainty. 3. Ability to work with people – Working with people is tough, but the truth is you have to work with other people and communicate with them. What benefits do you feel Australian Internships contributed to your internship? There are not enough words to explain the benefits that I found while doing my internship with Australian Internships. To put it into simple words, imagine you travel to a new city all by yourself. You arrive in this city, but you do not know how to reach your destination. Wouldn’t you ask someone for navigation? Now imagine, someone like that always giving you direction but in terms of career progression and internships until you finish your placement. Wouldn’t that be awesome? They make our life easier! You just need to give in your details, they match us with the hosts, arrange an interview, if we match, the internship starts. There is a lot of help provided during the internship as well and workplace insurance makes you assured that you are covered too. What advice would you give future interns regarding internships? What I’ve learned from my internship is that, internships matter! Be it virtual or not, learning that happens in academic closed walls is always limiting. Outside these walls, you meet like-minded people, you explore solutions with your knowledge and skills, you test your boundaries and finally, you understand the purpose of what you have learned in a university. Choose an internship rather than two credit modules, you will thank me later! What do you enjoy most about Australia? Sun, surfing, and laidback lifestyle. Excellent roads, nice food, pleasant weather, little pollution, decent economies, inexpensive life in general (well housing prices in the major cities are currently an issue). There was a bit of fear-mongering before I came here that how everything here tries to kill you especially spiders and crocodiles, but that is only if you do something stupid in remote areas. Bottom line, there is everything for everybody to enjoy life here. |
Muhammad Ahsan Ahmed - Engineering Management (Pakistan)Why did you choose to complete an Internship? First of all, thank you to the collaboration of Australian Internships and CQUni for providing me with an internship opportunity. The reason behind choosing an internship is very simple - I planned to prefer this business internship to make a strong profile by working in Australian culture and learn the dynamics of workplaces in Australia. Although I have worked in the past in different companies, the experience and culture here are different. I had this thing in my mind from the beginning that if I chose an internship and performed well here then I would be able to grab the opportunity and come out victorious! What have you learned the most during your internship? I have learned a lot during the 10 weeks’ time of expressing myself. The opportunity of working in the area of marketing and business development are the top acquired skills. Business development helped me to adapt agile marketing strategies and leadership skills along with operations management. Moreover, learning the technicalities of the services made me aware of the entire business. Also, I learned the significance of client communication which is the backbone of any business. What benefits do you feel Australian Internships contributed to your internship? Initially, matching the profiles to secure a suitable position was the best thing done by Australian Internships. Weekly Learning Plan made an impact to record my responsibilities and performances for every week. Feedback from the supervisor and timely communication throughout was great that contributed effectively to my internship and made it possible in the end to secure a role. Lastly, the certificate provided could make a great impact in the future. What advice would you give future interns regarding virtual internships? During the Covid-19 and post Covid-19 most of the companies prefer work from home and virtual meetings that are the new fit. My advice would be to learn as much as you can, show your dedication and apply whatever knowledge and skills you have. Even if you are doing virtual internships that are completely normal and try to adapt skills that way and bring the best out of you. What do you enjoy most about Australia? I love the environment and its peacefulness. The natural beauty of Australia is incomparable and people here are so kind and professional. Love everything about this beautiful country. I'm still exploring and I'm pretty sure that this country has more things to be amazed about. The thing I'm enjoying the most is the Australian lifestyle. |
Deeksha Rahanoo - Engineering Management (India)Why did you choose to complete an Internship? I feel that attending an internship is a great way to know the Australian working environment, new opportunities, building networks and most prominently enhancing your core study skills. I selected internship rather than subjects because I was curious to see how I would be able to apply my engineering management knowledge to a workplace. What have you learned the most during your internship? Australian Internships has arranged my internship for academic credit. This internship helped me in upgrading my verbal as well as written communication skills most. Also, I gained the confidence of making a certain contribution to the company’s operational processes where apart from learning high-level business processes, I enhanced my problem-solving and critical evaluation skills. Olam Group is already in an advanced phase of using Business Intelligence in the realm of AI. During my work, BI has helped me to know, track and get data about my daily, weekly and monthly activities ultimately improving my work efficiency, depicting problem areas and making way for improvement. What advice would you give future interns regarding virtual internships? I would like to say that joining an internship is always a great idea. The key is to maintain patience and have a balanced learning and contributing attitude that can ultimately bring positive results for both company and your professional development. Also, it is good to get in and take it as a challenge even if it seems difficult because, in the end, things that you have learned will be your own career asset. What do you enjoy most about Australia? I enjoy mixing up with people from different cultural backgrounds. I always feel motivated even if it is watching a Pelican taking a flight, exploring the Brisbane city life or attending a Business Event. |
Brian Cho - Engineering (Korea)Why did you choose to complete an Internship? To meet the requirement for graduation - 3 months of work experience in the engineering field. Additionally, to gain experience in the field of engineering as fast as possible. What have you learned the most during your internship? Definitely a lot in terms of the technical and business side of engineering. Quotation process, the overall process from client meetings to receiving payment. Attitude toward making mistakes, learning, everyone is very supportive of your attitude to learn. Being attentive. Adapting to company culture; What benefits do you feel AI contributed to your internship and time in Australia? The weekly assignments had been very helpful to review what I have learnt. There was a lot of new information and processes in a new environment that I really felt the need to organize my thoughts and learnings. The internship review had done that. By writing them every week, it made clear not only all the small to bigger tasks I had to do over the week but also what I have learnt through them. Often times, the bigger tasks take over and I forgot about the smaller tasks and learning from them. What advice would you give future interns? Prove before demand. You're not going to get paid during the internship, but to be hired you have to convince the company that you are capable of generating asset/merits equivalent or higher than the salary that you would like. The most practical way is to demonstrate your ability to learn, and your ability to suit well into the company culture.
What do you enjoy most about Australia? Not sure about Australia in particular, I've lived in New Zealand and Australia for too long to compare. |
Isiah Ron Pulido - Mechanical Engineering (Philippines)"The internship was an amazing experience. I would like to express my deepest sense of gratitude for the opportunity that Australian Internships has given me and for the chance to work in Tritium as a Mechanical Engineer Intern. The quality of the program is extraordinary. Enriching experiential learning, social engagement and cultural insights has allowed me to experience Australia in-depth and for that, I am beyond grateful and blessed."
